Sure, the STARS get to wear undeniably fabulous couture clothing us "normal" people do not have access to, but you do not need to have $100 million beans in the bank to get your black tie garments correct. :) IT'S PRIMARILY ABOUT CONFIDENCE !!!!
Have you heard this before? Well, you're going to hear it a lot more, because in fashion, it's all about the confidence. Staying current is still a very big MUST. You can find up to date styles in your local department stores and boutiques at an affordable price. My point is that no matter what you wear, the outfit looks 100x better on a person who is absolutely confident in their own skin.
Take for example, Angelina Jolie who is beyond fabulous. At the Golden Globes this year she rocked out in Versace, and then wore a much more casual dress by Packham at the SAG awards. She is the queen of switching up her style with confidence, and as a result, everyone pays more attention to her on the red carpet. 
Gentlemen also rocked it out this year on the red carpet. Although men are more simple, wearing the right fit of a suit is of the utmost importance. Below is Brad, Gerard, and Leo. Boy are they handsome!!!
